antique porcelain figurines - Rosenthal figurines and Wallendorf figurines

by Mary

antique porcelain figurines - Rosenthal figurines and Wallendorf figurines :- Hi, I have inherited antique porcelain figurines that were my Grandmother's and then my parents. My Grandmother and Grandfather were from Germany. I think they may have been her mother's.

The mark is a crown with what looks like a "W" underneath and the date 1764.

The figurines are a naked woman with a greyhound, and then what look like ballernina type or a woman with not much on them dancing - and then an naked baby.

All of the same mark and year.

I also have several Rosenthal figurines.

What is the mark? Is there any value to these figurines? I've never seen anything like them but did see something very similar on the Antiques Road show that were very valuable. If so, I would like to have them insured.

Thank you for your assistance.

Dear Mary,

Re. your antique porcelain figures.
First of all, you are correct in saying that they are porcelain. Technically, this is quite different from English Fine Bone China and is most often found on European figurines such as yours. They seem to be good quality ones because of the makers marks.

Rosenthal has a great reputation for quality, but you probably want to know who was the maker for your other figurines. I think that they are by a firm called Wallendorf, who have made some fabulous figurines.

Wallendorf Porcelain production began in the municipality of Wallendorf, Thuringia in 1763 and operated under numerous changes until 2008, including its 1953 nationalization under the East German government. They are known for athletic studies of young women, often with dogs as companions. It is hard to say much more about your particular figures without seeing photographs.

If they are Wallendorf, they could be worth at least £250 each.(depending on condition, of course) If you want to get a better valuation, you could go to Peter Holland's own large and extensive website which is geared up to answering queries regarding valuations etc. Go to this page-

looking for a particular wallendorf dancer figurine
by: Anne

I am looking to replace a wallendorf dancer figurine - it was aprox 12 inches tall, the young girl is wearing a white sleeveless (with a little bit of a collar), very short, slightly flarey dress - her arms are extended and one leg is extended - she is leaning slightly forward. Her hair is short and kind of whisked back. It is quite plain. Her skin has a flat flesh colour finish, whereas her dress has a more glossy white finish. I have looked on ebay and have not seen the same one. Could you suggest where I may look to find one or maybe the name of it so I could narrow it down more.
Thank-you.
