Ballet Figurines

by Anthea
(Australia)

Ballet Figurines.
I  am the principal of a ballet school.
All the ballet figurines I have seen have something dodgy about them , Like bad feet , bad arms , turned in bent legs. ?Do you think  one of our fabulous sculptors might create a ballet ?figurine based on a real ballerina ? ?There is a ballerina at the moment Svetlana Zakharova , She is AMAZING you can google her ,She has some incredible pictures on here web site. ?Darcy Bussel  would have been good  she has retired now though.
Also is there any more news on the new Peter Holland  garden  figurine ? ?I think it will be something else !!!

Best Wishes, ?Anthea

Re. Ballet figurines.

Dear Anthea,

I have had a look at photos of Svetlana Zakharova and I agree with you that
she is truly amazing.

John Bromley has done some good figures based on real
people such as Margo Fonteyn, Alicia Markova and Annette Sibley, in the past
for Compton & Woodhouse. I used to be product development director there so
was involved with helping John to produce them. They were done in
conjunction with the English National Ballet.

Peter Holland also has a ballet connection as his daughter is a young rising
star with the Birmingham Royal Ballet.

There are so many lovely ideas that
we want to do. The problem is time (and money to develop them) but we have a
ballet dancer on our list. I will make sure that you know as soon as we
start to work on one. Your job will make you very useful as an expert
adviser!.

Peter's 'English Garden' figurine is finished in his sculpting stage. It has
been approved by Basia. The next stage is to get it moulded then work out
how to apply all the flowers. We think that there will need to be 200 to do
it full justice. The problem will be that this will make it very expensive.
We are going to limit it to just 25 pieces, worldwide. We will probably end
up throwing away more pieces than we sell because of the difficulty of
producing them to a perfect standard. Can you imagine a figurine with 200
flowers where just one of the flowers is damaged and makes it a second?
There are no seconds in limited-editions so it would have to go in the bin!
The price might have to be around £1200. We know that this is way higher
than anything else that we have done but at the same time is is not out of
place if you look at Lladro pieces that are special. They would probably
charge much more, in fact!

One thing is for sure, this will be a most amazing piece!

John Bromley Ballet Figurines
by: Anthea

Dear  Tony,
Wow I had no idea  the ballet figurines you described existed !!!
I would love to see them .
Australia is very limited , I only started collecting figurines in December 2010 !!!
I collect antique Royal Worcester and Shelly . I receive the 'Collectors Weekly' and in December Royal Worcester had 'Ist Quadrille' , I had never seen such a beautiful figurine before and then started looking for more .
Well it is Feb now and I now have 16 figurines !!!
I agree with you about the price , Look at Lladro  and Giuseppe Armani  figurines .
In my opinion they are no wear near the beauty and perfection of Bromley , Holland etc.
The only thing is some of the other brands are huge pieces , They are also tacky  and all the female Armani figures  have a sexual look on there face !!!    Not very classy .

Dear Anthea,

Sorry for taking so long to reply but I have been searching for my old brochures of Compton & Woodhouse figurines, to show you some of John's
ballet figures. I moved house last year and the brochures were safely packed away - but could I find them?!

I have managed to track down an image for the Antoinette Sibley figure but not the others just yet.

I love the Antoinette Sibley figurine because of the way John has made her look as though she is leaping into the air so gracefully. I hope that you like the photos.

Best regards

Tony

The English Garden Sculpture
by: Peter Holland, Ceramic Sculptor

Dear Anthea

Tony was saying you are one of our very special collectors out there in Australia. He mentioned you are interested in my new very exclusive
figure ‘English Garden’ (not to be confused with my last one ‘Rose Garden’) – if so, you are you will be one of only so very few people in
the world to own one.

We are doing one tiny run of around 25, so it will be the most rare bone china piece I have ever done – and way the most valuable, I believe

Tony will give you the details, as he is the brains and I am just the brawn!. I was working on this figure in my studio for over a year before I was happy with her (a record).

Also the most technically difficult and ambitious I have ever conceived – pushing the boundaries of what you can actually achieve in a bone china medium.
