Coalport figurines query
by Gillian
(Tyne & Wear, UK)
Coalport figurines query. Hi there, I have recently been given three Coalport figurines to raise funds for charity. I have been trying to identify them and have looked at auction sites but cannot see the ones that I have. It seems as if they should have a name on the bottom but these don't. Please can you help. I attach a photo. Many thanks ================================================
Dear Gillian, The Coalport figurines that you are asking about were sculpted by Brian Dimant. He goes under the pseudonym of 'Jack Glynn'.
They seem to be quite recent versions of older figurines. The older, or original ones are more fully decorated. You seem to have cheaper decorated pieces, made to a cost. Coalport often did several versions of their figurines. When they changed the colour, they also gave the figure a new name. I cannot help you with the names. You might try contacting the Wedgwood/Doulton group, who own the Coalport brand name. Maybe someone might see this on our website and be able to help.
There is also a book which you might find in a library called the Charlton Book of Coalport figurines. This will should list every figure that they produced. Best regards Tony
