Coalport Figurines Roaring Twenties

by Ann Younis
(Wrexham)

Hi

Can you tell me how many figurines were in the commission Peter Holland undertook for Coalport in the 90s please.

I am the very proud owner of Marsha, she is just exquisite. I would love to acquire any other stunning ladies that Peter has created. Photos, names and any information as to where I might source them would be much appreciated.

Many thanks and hope you can be of assistance.

Ann

To Coalport Roaring Twenties Figurines

Hi Ann

Peter Holland here. I am not good on keeping records of my past ranges. My excuse is I am a 'creative' not a very admin person. That's a great excuse. Phew, hope you forgive me!

edit:- Kindly, Judi has come to my rescue! Scroll down to comments section link

In any case, it's always the best option to contact the company which marketed and distributed the collection - in this case Coalport, who are part of the Wedgwood Group (recently restructured under a new buy-out, so I'm not sure who's left to answer your query).

However, I can give you some background. There were a few different pieces already in the collection. Most were sculpted by Jack Glynn who started the series, and (I think) three by me who came in at a later date. I remember there being your one, a standing one, and also a double piece with two standing ladies.

There was one lady on a sofa called Penny sculpted by Nicholas Poccock (his only one - they didn't like his faces as much as mine and JG)

Here's some of the names I have cobbled together - but this may be incomplete:-

Eve 1997 Jack Glynn

Kitty 1997 Jack Glynn

Blanche 1997 Jack Glynn

Millie 1997 Jack Glynn

Delia 1997 Jack Glynn

Penny (on Sofa) by NICHOLAS POCOCK

Marsha 1997 Peter Holland

Double Piece Peter Holland

Sadie 1997 ?

Phoebe 1997 ?

If any collectors have more knowledge and can fill in the gaps, please post in the comments section.

Hope this helps.

Many Thanks

Peter Holland

Many thanks for the feedback, it has been very helpful. Does anyone out there have a photo of the Girl Talk figurine by Peter Holland?

Coalport Roaring Twenties figurines
by: Ann Younis

Hi Judi

Yes I have picked up on it this morning. The hand on the woman dressed on the left has been re-attached. It is difficult to determine how visible it is based on the image. Perhaps I am seeking perfection! I have trawled some of the back catalogues for auction houses, can't believe I missed Girl Talk up in Scotland two weeks ago, sold for £60.00. C'est la vie!

Girl Talk sells for £820 (damaged!)
by: Judi

Wow Ann did you see the damaged figure went for £820. Just one more reason to support English Figurine Makers.
I truly believe the Figurines from Figurine Collective will also becaome sought-after in years to come.
Bet Peter Holland wishes he had kept half a dozen of these for himself!!!!

Coalport Roaring Twenties figurines
by: Ann Younis

Hi Judi

I too was truly amazed at the £820 sale price, not far off the mark with your £750 ball park top end prices. There are obviously some serious collectors for these commissions out there now. I won't be able to compete in the bidding process when that kind of money is involved. Peter should be thrilled that his commissions are the ones that are commanding the highest prices. I wish he did have a secret little stash of them put to one side in bubble wrap somewhere to be unleashed on the market at some stage. So many more people could then have the opportunity to enjoy his exquisite flapper girl range. Continue to keep me in the loop Judi.

Regards

Ann

Sadie, Roaring Twenties
by: rie

by: sue cooke

im lucky enough to have 11 of the figurines, only 3 of peters,my sons sarted my collection of them in the 90s for xmas and birthdays,i would love to have all the collection but dont know whre to source anymore.i had no idea what the figurines are worth untill reading your comments,at those prices i could'nt afford them now.

ROARING TWENTIES - DELIA
by: Anonymous

Well, I am confused now. I am currently selling Delia on Ebay, and the base clearly states modelled by Nicholas Pocock, and not jack glynn as mentioned in the List of names of Coalport ladies (Peter Holland) - Roaring Twenties. Does it really matter which artist did which figurine? as i am sure any collector would want the whole series to display!

Peter Holland says:-

Hi

I just checked your listing - this is definitely a Pocock not a Glynn. Their styles are very different.

There is a typo on my list on the main page. Apologies.

Wedgewood Roaring Twenties "Bonnie" 1998

A Girl Talk double figurine is on ebay this week

Attention all Coalport Roaring Twenties Collectors!
by: Peter Holland (sculptor)

After talking it through with my wife Debbie (she likes the piece) I decided to release a very rare Roaring Twenties from my private collection.

My argument was we don't collect the range as such, this was just a one off, so we should release this piece for the collectors who are finding it hard to find these pieces.

I have not seen this piece anywhere else and I don't know how many more were made (if any).

Any help please?

p.s. I found these ones which are definitely by Pocock (some of these correct the information given above).

Pippa with plum coloured coat and large white dog was Pocock

Delia with small white fluffy pooch and bright green dress was Pocock

Charlie with cream summer dress and pink bandanna with a little white cat was Pocock

Any other info please post here of contact me via the listing.

Bonnie is a Pocock Too
by: Peter Holland (sculptor)

UPDATE ON ABOVE POST

Thanks to Eleanor via eBay, we now know the Pocock figure I mentioned in the above post was called Bonnie in production, but the version Eleanor has seen perhaps two or three times has a black coat with a grey trim. Thanks Eleanor.

I just noticed the post by Sharon, a couple of post above is about Bonnie too. The answer is, yes, Bonnie is part of this same Coalport collection too. Sharon, please tell us what colorway you have of Bonnie.

That makes the following by Pocock so far, that we know of:

Bonnie with Chow dog (normally black coat?)

Penny on the sofa

Pippa with plum coloured coat and large white dog

Delia with small white fluffy pooch and bright green dress

Charlie with cream summer dress and pink bandanna with a little white cat

by: Claire

I'm not a fan of Coalport as such but I totally love these "matt effect" figurines - I very lucky to have "Girl Talk" by Peter and 5no others by Jack Glynn. Every one has a story behind it for me and why i have it and so i would never sell them but I would love to buy more

Where is the best place to look?
