Dresden Ballerina Figurine.

by Meryl
(United Kingdon)

Hi,

My 90 year old father sadly passed away. He was an avid collector of all sorts.

We have come across a tiny (nearly 4 inch tall) ballerina style figurine. She is such a pretty little object we would love to know where she came from or any details.

Underneath the small base in blue is an ornate crown. under this also in blue is a sidewards laying diamond shape with letters m and an ornate z inside it.
At the bottom in black joined cursive writing is Dresden Dec 14.

I have tried to take a picture but my technology skills are limited - if needed I can get someone to help me!!

Would be very grateful of your help - we have so many items to research, but this one seems to have found his way into Dad's house, without us knowing where or how she came from.

Re. Dresden Ballerina Figurine.

Dear Meryl,
It sounds like you have a very pretty Dresden porcelain ballerina.

Identifying which particular Dresden factory is very difficult as there were up to 40 different workshops making porcelain in Dresden up to 1945. All production ceased at that time because of Allied bombings which totally destroyed the city.

The number 14 probably dates your piece to 1914. If I could see the mark, I might have a better chance of identifying your piece's particular factory - but even then it would be difficult unless it was from one of the better known ones.

I hope that this helps.

best regards

Tony
