A Limited Edition Figurine Enhanced by Breathtaking Skills of the Flower Maker
Enhancing Edition Figurines With Hand Made Flowers

Denise - the consummate bone china flower maker and ARRANGER. "FIND OUT HOW TO RESERVE A FIGURINE WITH NO OBLIGATION TO BUY!"
One of the beautiful features of "Rose Garden" is the generous application of hand-made roses to the limited edition figure. Peter designed her head-piece to take some stunning showpiece roses, the main one being a peony rose, skillfully made and designed by our flower-maker Denise. Denise is not just an ordinary a flower - she is extraordinary for a couple of reasons. First, she is an 'arranger and designer' as well as a china flower maker. From the tradition where china flower making was the start of the skills, which then progressed to china flower designing and arranging.

A message to bone china edition figurine collectors from Denise:-"It is not just my skills which are being preserved and recorded for posterity within the UK Figurine Collective, please take the time to read the special email booklet they have prepared." The arranger was trained to go beyond the skills of china flower making (which are incredible in their own right), to the artistry of being able to set out and design intricate arrangements on premium limited edition figurine pieces. Secondly, Denise is one of the few working bone china hand-made flower makers and arrangers working in Staffordshire (and possibly the whole of the UK) today. The ancient art of flower making has been passed down through the generations but there is a dwindling group of skilled makers who have managed to retain the art.We are extremely fortunate to be able to work with Denise, who has been an edition figurine flower maker for Coalport for 25 years, until her recent redundancy. To watch her take tiny flakes of clay and fashion them into a perfect flower is breathtaking. She makes it look effortless, how she crafts individual petals between her fingers, before assembling them into a perfect rose or any other flower that you may care to task her with making. The delicate and fragile clay roses are carefully applied to the figurine with a tiny drop of bone china slip. The flowers need to be handled with extreme care to avoid breaking them at this important stageNotice the large rose in the center of the arrangement is a different type of rose. It is a 'Peony' rose and especially enhances the look and feel of this piece. Peter Holland wrote an interesting story where things so nearly went wrong, about the design of this central arrangement. Catch up with this by signing up to the topical talk news/updates emails here:- Collect Figurines Topical Talk Page. Here's what Peter Holland, sculptor, says about working with Denise....
"Denise typifies the type of person it makes my job a pleasure to work with. She doesn't just 'turn up', do a bit of flower making, then shoot off for a coffee break. Denise lives and breathes her art. She sees all the heritage of her Staffordshire trade and is acutely aware of it. After all she has lived it all her life since leaving school, and seen all the old characters. She knows what a good arrangement is which compliments a piece. She would refuse to work on one which she didn't feel was right and tell everybody who needed to know without hesitation. She is definitely someone I would choose to have on my team like a shot".
