Only three pieces were sent from England to represent the ceramic industry here. John's first figurine for was one of the chosen few.
The exhibition was a chance, not only to show the rich ceramic heritage of Stoke-on-Trent but also to bring the story up to date.
The prestigious Potteries Museum and Art Gallery in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent was asked, together with the other European museums participating in the show, to select three contemporary works in its collection that represented the modern face of what is being made in each ceramic city today.
"As Lovely as You" the first of our collectable John Bromley figurines, was on display in the exhibition "De Terre et de Feu" (Of Earth & Fire) at the Galerie des Hospices, Limoges from 18 June to 26 September 2010.
The exhibition has been organised by Chantelle Meslins-Perrier, Director of the Limoges Porcelain Museum, and draws on works from nine European countries plus Japan, and their museums (23 in total) .
The European countires are are all part of the Urban Network for Innovation in Ceramics (UNIC) and one of the regular meetings of UNIC was held at Limoges at the start of the exhibition.
The Potteries Museum chose hotelware from Dudson, earthenware causal dining from Emma Bridgewater and, to represent the important figure-making tradition of Stoke-on-Trent - "As Lovely as You".
"As Lovely as You" is exhibit no 312 in the full-colour catalogue that accompanies the exhibition. The Limoges museum also produced a special postcard, featuring a photo of John's figure, to sell in the gallery shop.
It was yet another confirmation that John Bromley figurines from The Figurine Collective are of immediate museum quality, but also available to discerning collectors, worldwide.

Earth and fire The Adventure of European ceramics at LimogesGalerie des Hospices, LimogesJune 18, 2010 to September 26, 2010 Exhibition organized by the city of Limoges in collaboration with the Musée National Adrien Dubouché porcelain, Limoges and the RMN. This exhibition responds to the will of the City of Limoges - whose very name became synonymous with porcelain in many countries - an exhibition that highlights the production centers of the nine European ceramics combined with its ambitious initiative in the UNIC project (Urban Network for Innovation in Ceramics) Limoges (France), Delft (Netherlands), Stoke-on-Trent (England), Selb (Germany), Castellon (Spain), Seville (Spain), Aveiro (Portugal ), Pécs (Hungary), Faenza (Italy). Putting into perspective the technological developments and major artistic movements that have marked the history of these centers since their inception until today, this event will demonstrate the quality and vitality of the tradition of European ceramics as rich heritage preserved by cultural institutions in each city. Addressing the wider public, the exhibition will offer first a clear definition of various ceramics such as terracotta, earthenware, stoneware and porcelain. She then traces the origins of Oriental porcelain (China, Korea and Japan), recalling the role of Marco Polo in the discovery of this precious area long coveted by the West, who appropriated it in the early eighteenth century. Organized chronologically, the presentation will follow the major artistic movements that have succeeded: after the Baroque and Neoclassicism, we will focus on the romantic Orientalism before addressing the followers of Bernard Palissy and Japanese. Some techniques developed during the nineteenth century, as the dough or dough grain rice will also be discussed as well as research conducted by ceramists on enamel colors, especially the famous red and copper chandeliers. For the twentieth century, will be collected pieces insignia representative of Art Nouveau, Art Deco as well as years 50 and 70.
