PERSONAL MESSAGE TO JOHN BROMLEY: I WAS A CLASSMATE OF JOHN'S AT CROSS STREET JUNIORS, STOKE IN THE 1950s
by Adrian Insull
(Worcestershire )
PLEASE BRING THIS TO THE PERSONAL ATTENTION OF Mr BROMLEY:
My name is Adrian Insull and I went to school with John Bromley at Cross Street Juniors in Stoke from 1949 until 1954 when John and I were between 5 and 10 years old. In fact, not only did I go to the same school, I was in the same class, with Mr Brandrick being our art teacher and Miss Salmon being one of our class teachers. Some of our classmates were Maurice Hope, Cyril Hassall and my continuing life-long friend, namely Graham Shenton, who still lives in North Staffs. Pat Bird was one of the girls in our class who went on to better things and had a fine mind.
I well remember, when we were 7 or 8 years old, in the art room, up some steel steps, in an annexe away from the main body of the school, John making a model of a tiger in pottery clay, about 2 or 3 inches long and it was perfect; even without the stripes and the colours, it was undoubtedly a TIGER, and..... Mr Brandrick was stunned by its precision.
For John's interest, if he remembers me (unlikely), I went on to become a technical boffin and was the high voltage system design manager and then high voltage circuits manager for the whole of the Midlands Electricity Board and its successor companies. Funny really; two boys who stood side-by-side in that art class at Cross Street Juniors sixty years ago and one became an art master and the other a techno master.
My best wishes go to my old classmate.
Adrian =============================================== Hello Adrian, was amazing to hear from a school friend from so far back as Cross Street.!! The last teacher I spoke to was a Ray Hayward. Do you have any old school photos? I am now living in Rudyard Leek. If you send in your email address I will give you my personal one. I can't give it out over the open internet because of spam. Will also try to find photos. Look forward to hearing from you. Regards John
