Radnor Hall Bros bone china figurines

by Garth Wall
(Edmonton Canada)

Radnor Hall Bros bone china figurines; -
I have been putting together a collection of scottish dancer and dress figurines I would like more info on Radnor Hall Bros on how many different tartans they produced and how many different caracters they had in each series. I figure they had wee lassie and wee laddie, Laddie and Lassie the laird and the lady this is what I have came up with so far. Also picked up a large piece called the piper ( only seen one so far )Macmillan tartan and is a very nice figurine. Also have picked up Rob Roy another great figurine. I had seen it twice at shows in the last 30 years both times broken finally got a mint one.I would appreciate any info if there is any on the making of the above mentioned so I know what to look out for. Thanks for your consideration.

re. Radnor Hall Bros bone china figurines …-
Dear Gareth.

I am intrigued by your figurines. I have to confess that I do not know very much about them but I will publish your enquiry in case one of our other collectors knows anything. If you were able to send in some photographs of your favourite pieces in your collection, I am sure that it would help.

I had a quick look on Google and saw details of a pair that were sold at auction a few years ago. Here are the catalogue details -

'PAIR OF HALL BROS. (Radnor Bone China) FIGURES 'Wee Laddie Macgregor' and 'Wee Lassie Macleod' 6" high (2) EST 70-90
Estimate: 70-90'

Dear Julie,
I am so pleased that you have written in to let us know about your father's business. This is the kind of thing that makes the internet so amazing - that someone in Canada can get a message directly from a family member of the pottery company that they collect pieces from. -

I look forward to any further information that you can provide us.

Regards

Tony

Radnor Hall Brothers.
by: Garth Wall

Hello Tony I have tried on 2 occasions to Email the pictures of my favorite Radnor Figurines we may have a software problem or I am not doing the right things. If you have another address for me to try I will do so. Thanks

Radnor Hall Bros.
by: Garth Wall

Glad you have received the pictures Tony. I hope they will bring back some good memories to Ms.Hall, as you can see the quality of the figurines is very good. From my point of view it appears that the company allowed the painters to have a somewhat free hand to do their own thing, I have seen the same pieces painted quite differently which makes collecting them very much fun.

Radnor, Hall Bros.
by: Garth Wall

Hello again Tony. Further to our Radnor Scottish Figurines, I have seen them in the following tartans, MacLeod, Campbell, Macgregor, Macdonald, Macmillan, Macintosh, Stewart Royal. They were still advertising them in 1950 along with their Birds, Floral Ware, and Toby Jugs Also a figurine called Anne , which I have seen on a few occasions.I have never came across any of the birds or toby jugs.Hope this will be of interest Thanks.

Estate find Hall Radnor figurines
by: Dean

I found these posts rather interesting. I have two of the Radnor figurines that I picked up at an estate sale in Western Texas about a year ago and have found very little information about them on the internet. Mine seem to be in near mint condition. One is the Macleod and the other is the Macintosh. Thanks to each of you for your posts here.

Further Info
by: Garth

Hello Tony just came across some information regarding Radnor Hall Bros., it was stated that the Company was sold to Royal Doulton back in the late 60's or early 70's maybe someone could confirm that for us. Thanks.

Radnor find!
by: Rockpool

I recently bought two of the Radnor figurines for a colleague, just spotted them at a bric-a-brac shop and they caught my eye...I got Laddie and Lassie Macdonald, in lovely condition, for $45 New Zealand dollars the pair. It looks like I got a bargain :-)

Thanks for the information!
=============================================
Great news - it's always good to get a bargain, especially for something as nice as those two!

Good buy
by: Garth

Rockpool, you made a fine purchase. I just backed off on ebay on a wee lassie at $ 60.00 US. looks like the prices are on their way up as the pieces get harder to find. Its all about our natural hunting and gathering instincts. Radnors are still a great find for a fair price good value for your dollar.

julie hall
by: neil cope

Hi julie i've just found this site. I'd like everyone to know that i worked at hall bros from 1978-82 i was a caster and made just about everything going. It was a really nice place to work roger was my boss. I can remember most of the workers names to this day. I remember all the brothers having the same cars big bmw's.

Radnor Bone China Toby
by: Joe Mott

I purchase a Radnor Bone China toby style mug a dozen years ago at a flea market in London. It is a of a pirate and a parrot, the parrot forming a handle by being mounted on the rim of the hat. The pirate has an eye patch and grey, curled hair. It is very well colored and I think it is in near mint condition. Can anyone tell me anything about the figure, especially the approximate age? Any comments would be greatly appreciated.
=============================================
Hi Joe,
There is a healthy group of contributors to this section on Radnor Hall Bros products. I hope that someone will see your comments and be able to give you some more information.
Regards
Tony

To garth
by: Neil cope

I worked at hall bros 78-82 and i never once heard anything at all about doultons owning it. I'm sure hall bros was family owned right to the end. The three brothers hardly ever had a day off and lets not forget there sister she worked in the office too.

To Neil
by: Garth

Thanks for clearing that up Neil. I have been hearing about a Doulton connection for many years. Its nice that Tony's site can connect all the old employees and hopefully they can clear up some of the mystery around the Radnor figurines.

Wee laddie and lassie
by: Ruthi

Does anyone have pictures of them? I have a pair and I'd like to see if this is what they are. I can't find a picture on the computer

Pictures
by: Garth

Hello Ruthi, Which Clan are your wee laddie and lassie ? I have quite a few and I will send pictures if I can have your Email, maybe through Tony to be safe.

Hall Brothers
by: Ann Bowen

I can confirm that Hall brothers remained privately owned until the end of production. My mother was the flower makers supervisor and made many of the prestige pieces.

Thanks for your contribution, Ann.
I am sure that your mother had many fascinating stories to tell whilst she work there.

Folling on fron Julie Hall
by: Myles Davies

Hi there,

I am Julie's son, Peter Hall was my grandfather, at 29 i am still amazed at the information i can find about the family companies works, i will direct my mum back to this site so that she can reply to your messages, I will also show my grandma Brenda Hall, this site as i am sure it will make her day to see so many people interested and still collecting something that was a massive part of the families life for so long. more overly that Neil still remembers Roger, or as i know him from my mum simply, Uncle Roger.

At the house I still have original catalogue photos from the old collections, i have yet to place them in any order, but will see what can be done about publishing them on line for you all. it may take some time.

I hope that mum will come back to you all soon,

Thanks

Myles

Radnor Family
by: Garth

I must say Myles it was nice to hear from you representing your family again. My wife Anne and I have been collectors of various figurines for many years Hummel, Doulton, etc. My favourites have been the Scottish Radnors, they always remind me of my wonderful Scottish family. Anne emmigrated to Canada as a young lady in the 60's I became very close to her family during our many trips to Edinburgh and their many trips to visit us in Western Canada. As in your family some are gone now and the Radnors are a pleasent reminder of the wonderful times together. Thanks for the Memories
