Royal Adderley Query
by Marie
(Liverpool, Merseyside, England)
I have been given a white bone china dinner service made by Royal Adderley. I have been told it was made for one of the Liverpool ship building companies in 1909. It has a gold trim with a ship building crane on it, with the date 1909. Any inofrmation on this dinner service would be helpful. Many thanks Marie.
=================================================== Royal Adderley Query. Hi Marie, Your enquiry about your Royal Adderley plate is a very specialized one. The company themselves were a well respected old Stoke-on-Trent bone china company. They were eventually bought by the Royal Doulton group and lived on in just name only. At the time that your plate was made, though, they were a fully independent firm making some beautiful china.
Shipping plates were either commemorative for some special event of made for use on the ships. To find out about your particular plate, I think that you have to research which ship company it was in Liverpool. I would try the Merseyside Maritime Museum in Liverpool. Their address is -
Merseyside Maritime Museum Albert Dock Liverpool L3 4AQ England
Telephone 0151 478 4499
Their website is - http://www.liverpoolmuseums.org.uk/maritime/
I hope that they can help you.
best regards
Tony
