To Royal Worcester Bone China Figurines Query
Dear Roy and Jacky,
Thank you for your enquiry about Royal Worcester figurines.
Royal Worcester has been one of the most prestigious companies in the history of the UK's history of ceramics.
Sadly, it went into receivership last November after years of decline in manufacturing at its factory in Worcester. The same fate fell on their sister company, Spode. The name of Worcester (and Spode) was bought by Portmeirion Pottery in April this year. They are a great company, producing some notable designs such as 'Botanic Garden' and they will ensure that the Worcester name lives on.
With regard specifically to figurines, Royal Worcester have not made figurines themselves for a couple of years now.
Before they finally closed down, they outsourced production to the Far East and licensed their name to other companies to produce figurines, notably Compton & Woodhouse. Some have been produced under license in The Potteries, in the UK.
I believe that Portmeirion have no intention of making figurines themselves but are happy to continue with the license deal with Compton & Woodhouse.
Hope this answers your query.
