Why Is Jack Glynn Not Part of Your China Figurines Team?
Why Is Jack Glynn Not Part of Your China Figurines Team?:- Collector Carolyn asked a very pertinent question on one of our online survey forms. She said:- "Why isn't Jack Glynn part of your team?". We thought everyone should have the opportunity to read the reply.

Dear Carolyn,
Thank you for taking the time and trouble to fill in one of our online survey forms and asking the "Jack Glynn" question.
You asked "Why isn't Jack Glynn part of your team?".
Your question opens an interesting discussion on several fronts.
One of the key reasons why we originally set up The UK Bone China Figurines Collective was the aim of promoting great sculptural design within the field of bone china figurines production.
Our two founder members are John and Peter, who as you know sit at the top table of their world, but we have always intended to include as many other great sculptors as possible once we get going.
We are still a very young company, with our first china figurine just about to go into production. It is a very exciting time for us and we have been shown great support so far with many commissions already in for the first production pieces.
Collectors seem to like what we are doing - staying true to the English bone china traditions and people.
Once we are able, we intend to invite those that we see as the best other sculptors to come and join us. There will be a great benefit to sculptors, as we will give total artistic freedom to them.
We have all experienced the effect of producing good work and having it taken away, to be developed in a manner that takes it down a road that we would not have gone.
This has happened more in the past few years, mainly down to the fact that work has gone abroad to be made and the possibility of a sculptor visiting the factory to follow progress has been taken away.
Our sculptors get involved with every stage and have to approve them as the piece develops. Our certificate of authenticity will not be a meaningless document with a printed signature, but will literally be a sign off (by hand) of each of the china figurines by the sculptor.
However coming back to Jack Glynn. Jack is actually the pseudonym of Brian Dimant. I think he originally used the pseudonym when he worked for Welsh porcelain and wanted to do outside work. The 'Jack Glynn' name comes from his two sons first names and was mainly used when he worked for Coalport and Compton & Woodhouse.
You might be interested to know that lots of sculptors work with pseudonyms. There are often reasons such as a contract to work exclusively for a particular company or simple a desire to keep work separate for rival firms such as used to exist with Coalport and Royal Worcester. Our own John Bromley has the alternate name of Nigel Stephens (taken from his first son’s name and his wife, Veronica’s maiden name) that you might come across.
Another example of dual names is that of Martin Evans, who is also known as Richard Moore.
There are probably not quite as many different sculptors working today as you might have thought. It is a sad fact but the big firms are reducing the opportunity for sculptors to work for them as they are now getting china figurines sculpted and manufactured abroad.
We would like to reassure you that everything that The Figurine Collective produces will be totally produced in the UK – from the original model to the final box and any accessories.
I hope this goes towards answering your query, and thank you again for being such a friend to the site. Your support is very welcome.
Best regards
